Somebody said “New Year, New Me” is played out so how about… “New Year, New Biz”?!
Last year I took an “unplanned sabbatical” (that’s what I’m calling it 😉) which turned out to be lifechanging. I spent the first few months resting, spending LOTS of time with myself, my own thoughts, and God… so I could really tune in to what my next chapter would look like. Would I return to the same types of corporate tech roles I’d had before? Or try a different industry? Or type of job?
Resoundingly loud and clear, the result is a return to entrepreneurship but in a MUCH bigger way. To make a long story short-ish, I’m opening a private room karaoke restaurant and bar (or “karaoke box”) in the most beautiful land in the world in 2025!
I spent most of last year doing market research and visiting karaoke boxes around the country, learning from their owners’ successes and lessons, hosting private karaoke nights and vetting the concept, learning the hospitality industry from some of the best to ever do it (RIP Houston’s 🙃), flushing out a 30-page business plan, building relationships with local financial institutions, touring available commercial properties to find the best location, taking advantage of all of the incredible entrepreneurship resources and workshops the city has to offer, connecting with and learning from other Memphis entrepreneurs, and preparing to do a round of fundraising (theeee hardest part of all of it for me! But I can do hard things right? 😆).
That sounds like a lot, but the truth is, we’ve hardly even gotten started!
I’m soooooo excited to bring this to Memphis!! Our city needs it and from what I’m already seeing, we want it. Real bad.
Also excited to have the best supporters (all y’all!) to ride this journey with me! More to come real soon… 😉
I guess I should update the tagline to include entrepreneurship, huh?
